First, What is a Video Podcast?
The definition of a Video Podcast, or often referred to as a "vodcast," is a short movie available on the web. "Vod" stands for Video-On-Demand and the "cast" comes from the word broadcast. Other terms used that mean the same thing are vodpods, vidcasts, vlogging, and pocket cinema.
The technology behind video podcasting is the same as the magic that makes up podcasting—RSS. By preparing your movies properly and creating the right feed, you can offer your audience video on demand through an application familiar to us all: iTunes 4.9, a version of iTunes that supports playback of local and streamed video. Here’s how to go about creating and distributing a vodcast of your own.
Equipment Needed
Computer, digital camera, microphone, speakers, high-speed internet access, and a program to edit the video such as Windows Movie Maker or iMovie.
Side Note: Smartboards also have a tool for you to create a different type of vodcast. Through the Smartboard you can record an image of the computer screen while putting a voice over. This is done by going to Smartboard tools - open - recorder. If students do not have internet access at home, the vodcasts can be burned to a DVD.
Step One: Create the Podcast (audio) portion of your Vodcast
Once you have created, edited and saved your pictures and/or video in Movie Maker, your ready to import your MP3 Audio file, which in this case is your Podcast recording you saved earlier using Audacity.
Step Three: Posting/Uploading your Vodcast to a Campus Website (in Joomla)
